No, the account settings page is not a block anymore. Honestly, this is best practice and I would look to utilize your settings this way.
We are looking into adding more fields, along with a potential onboarding screen. Otherwise, there are handy ways to create this functionality using page rules, conditional forms, and airtable automations to connect the two together in the database.
(1) Totally get that itās the best practices for an internal tool with very basic functionality. But of course it doesnāt really work for more complex applications with not-so-basic settings.
I also totally get why Softr wants to standardize as much as possible, but for us, for building something a little more complex, it just really limits what I can build for users if I canāt copy a block anymore / canāt change font sizes, spacings, etc.
So Iām just always evaluating if weāre growing in the opposite direction of Softr now or if we can continue to customize things to make it work for our use case.
(2) An onboarding screen with some rule-based forwarding would be awesome! Using airtable automations doesnāt really work because there is always a delay and I need the professional UX when someone signs up.
Iāll play a bit more with the new studio this weekend to see if we can make it work somehow.
Hi @Jjenglert. I like the idea of adding optional fields to sign up for capturing essential info about users, up front, like existing sign up blocks. This streamlines onboarding so users can get right to things after signing up, instead of taking another step to enter more info if itās unecessary.
With this new authentication, which is the same functionality as the sign-in-with-code block, extra sign up fields should be implemented similarly to the way conditional forms work where data from fields is held, but not inputted into datasource users tables until after the email is validated and the authentication process is completed. This would help streamline onboarding and manage users as soon as they sign up.
It depends on how long you have to wait. For instance, if youāve been with Softr since the beginning and paying in for years, you wonder why Noloco is already online, Smartsuite and Notion are in the pipeline, and most importantly if/when other datasources like Airtable will be āexperimentedā with for live updates. This, like a lot of other improvements have been a long time coming for loyal Softr builders, creators, ā¦
Hey guys,
I made the shift to the new builder - it was quite the hustle to copy everything over, but it was so worth it.
I made a list of all pages, created the pages with the same names and URLs in the new studio, then copied over all blocks, starting with the bottom blocks first and working my way up so that theyāre in the right order.
I then went through all pages, making sure that itās all correct, copied all SEO etc. over, and added the integrations.
Having to simplify the onboarding process was actually great - now I have google sign up finally and I see how most users are already choosing Google as the preferred sign up option. When they sign up, they land on an onboarding page, which is a conditional form that then copies the info over to their user profile. Once filled out, they are forwarded to their account settings.
Important:
You canāt just take down your old app, change the Softr Domain on the old app and then change the Softr URL of the new domain to that same domain. In my case, I had to call the new domain āinclimate2.softr.ioā. When I used the same domain, it messed up the Softr redirect.
What I love:
Google sign ups
Standardized 404 pages etc
How the header appears on mobile at the bottom
Some issues / suggestions I still have:
When clicking on the logo in the header, it does not take users to the homepage, but to another page
If the header has a drop down, it would be great if it would still highlight the dropdown that one is currently on, just like it does on a single page
When the header puts additonal pages under ā¦ on mobile, the headline is āPrimaryā, would be great if that said the application name
Deleting navigations (JJ said itās coming)
Usersā passwords donāt work anymore now of course, so Iāll have to communicate that to everyone
Overall loving the update and it forced me to clean up my app Thanks guys!
will pass this onto team. Itās suppose to go to homepage.
Noted.
I think thatās a bug that weāre working on fixing, but noted.
For passwords, I would suggest switching to login with email option. This way itās secure and you dont have to switch magic links, or update passwords.
Otherwise, glad to hear it was a somewhat successful experience!
Thanks for the feedback @Tim_ClimatEU. That was pretty fast!
Can you elaborate about this part, because after authentication, a new user record is created, right? How do you then ācopyā your āconditional formā data on the āonboarding pageā to the new user record that was created upon authentication?
It was awesome! but i I had some internet connection problems and my English is not excellent, I did not understand the answers at the end regarding the implementation or not of push notifications in a chat system in the future
Softr Tables is a great initiative and Iām looking forward to it. How usable it will be for me will depend on its accessibility to make.com automations. Make.com provides very sophisticated workflow management tools, data manipulation. It links together other important tools like the GSuite ecosystem (Drive and calendars especially), transactional and marketing email providers like Brevo and Mailerlite, form providers like Fillout and Tally and payment providers like Stripe - to mention just a few.
So, if Softr Tables will be accessible to make.com to search, and update records (as a minimum) it will enable a complete package for me.
Can any indications be provided about connections for make.com?
Nothing new. I just couldnāt do it before because I didnāt have this onboarding flow because I was asking for the user group on the sign up page. So google sign up was not an option before.
That is what I figured. Just wanted to confirm.
Hopefully Softr adds more fields to the new sign up to avoid unnecessary user onboarding steps and admin workflows, which is what all of this ānew account managementā should be about anyway.
