Meet the new Softr šŸš€

When we launched Softr in August of 2020, we had a simple vision: empower anyone to create software, without code.

Looking back 4 years later, itā€™s amazing to see how far weā€™ve come. From a simple interface builder to a platform used by 700,000+ builders to create custom portals, internal tools, CRMs, dashboards, and moreā€” without writing a single line of code. :rocket:

Through countless conversations with you, we learned that the real challenge wasnā€™t just building software - it was building the right software for your specific needs.

Todayā€™s update delivers exactly that. Weā€™ve reimagined the entire app-building experience with modern building blocks, enhanced user management, and, most importantly, opened up our platform to work with virtually any data source you already use - from SQL databases to business tools like HubSpot and Notion.

But this is just the beginning. :eyes:
In 2025, weā€™re taking a massive leap forward by introducing Workflows and Tables, unlocking full-stack app-building capabilities so businesses can build, automate, and manage their dataā€”all within Softrā€™s ecosystem.

Join us on February 27th for an exclusive preview of our 2025 roadmap and whatā€™s coming - RSVP here.

Check out more details on the launch and announcement in our blog post.

None of this would be possible without your trust, feedback, and the incredible things you build with Softr daily. Youā€™ve shown us whatā€™s possible when we put powerful tools in the hands of passionate builders.

Iā€™m excited to see what you will build next! :raised_hands:

Congrats! I am so looking forward to see it

Great release, but it looks like that if you want to use the new menu header, you have to rebuild your whole new appā€¦ is there a way to apply it also to existing apps?

Yes, we will be providing instructions on how to migrate your existing apps shortly. Iā€™ll post it here when ready!

Oh, thank goodness. I logged in, all excited, to see absolutely nothing different within the builderā€¦ thought I was going crazy. I was really hoping for inline table editing, but I like the new menu options. How do you display create menus for different users though? Logged in, versus non-logged in, versus special user groups? When might the porting option be available?

It will be soon (rather in a few hours, days or weeks)? I was so excited to see the possibilities but also I took a big cold shower when the support informed me that it was only for new applications and that I had to redo all my applications ( several hundred hours of work) with the new interfaceā€¦ thanks in advance for your answer

Weā€™re thrilled to see your enthusiasm about our new blocks and software updates! I wanted to provide an update on availability and migration.

The good news is that all new blocks are now available to everyone when creating new applications. However, since this is a significant upgrade that affects user accounts and the overall block structure, weā€™re still finalizing the migration process for existing applications.

Current Status:

  • Migration technology and documentation are still in development
  • We estimate several more weeks to complete this work, but have no official deadline set yet

Interim Solution: For those eager to try the new blocks immediately, you can:

  1. Create a new application
  2. Copy and paste your existing blocks to the newly created app

While we recognize this workaround isnā€™t ideal, particularly for larger applications, it offers a temporary solution for smaller projects. For larger applications, we recommend waiting for the official migration tools, which will hopefully be available in the coming weeks. Please feel free to share any questions in the comments below. We appreciate your patience as we work to make this transition as smooth as possible!

Is there a list somewhere where we can see all the new blocks that have been added/updated?

I can see that the menu/header options are different (great improvement BTW!) but what else has been added?

Thanks!

Whouaa several weeks to waitā€¦

If i use interim solution, by copying and pasting existong blocs to the newly created app, does block keep connect to data base? Or we must map all the block?

I am doing this now and all the mapping has carried over so far.

Iā€™m trying to remain positive as someone who has been here from almost day one, but damn, an estimate of several weeks with no firm date? It seems to be a botched release from my perspective. The features look interesting but Iā€™d be lying if I said I was not a little underwhelmed after playing with them ā€¦ at least with the way this was built up. I guess I do not see a few new blocks as ā€œWeā€™ve reimagined the entire app-building experience with modern building blocksā€ Iā€™m giving Softr this year to see how this all pans out, and I am hopeful, but it is gonna have to be a great year! Thanks for all of your hard work so far, I hope you can finish off the work you have done so far to be that platform that can serve my needs.

Hello
One question about the new Tables feature : will it be possible to have an European storage ? Wher will the data be stored ?
Thanks

Email validation flow looks good! I knew Softr could do it like existing ā€˜Sign In With Codeā€™ blocks. Just wish it hadnā€™t taken so long for this while on the Business Plan for years.

Incredible improvement :rocket:

I have the same question. My app is public-facing, so I do need a normal header for non-logged-in users, otherwise the new app builder wonā€™t be an option for me unfortunately. Is Softr moving towards internal tools only now? That would be a big problem for us. Would be great to get some clarification

Apparently you can change the navigation layouts for a header.

I have no idea how Softr is going to ā€œmigrateā€ old apps without a lot of work and problems on our end though.

Aah I missed that one!

With migrating it to a new app - can I somehow migrate the usersā€™ passwords?
Iā€™d have to move over 15k users :eyes:

You can change the layout and you can change navigation depending on what page youā€™re on, but it seems like now one canā€™t create visibility settings for the navigation?

That would be super important for non-logged in, free, and paying users since the navigation changes based on that.

@Tim_ClimatEU and others, the visibility rules for nav bar have now become 10x easier

You only have one header, but define visibility rules per each link, see the attached image (like you would do for actions)

Yes @Tim_ClimatEU - the goal is to have one navigation, for all users, logged-in or not. With visibility rules now, you can customize accordingly to your use case. But you can have multiple navs if needed, still.

re. @Tim_ClimatEU - We have a new authentication flow called ā€œLogin with codeā€ that makes it really easy for your users to login with just their email, so if you do switch to a new app, I would suggest switching to that so passwords wonā€™t be a problem.

@Patrick_Tardy a bit too early for that at the moment. Iā€™ll pass to the team so they are aware of this feedback though!

@andy Thanks for your feedback, and your consistent support! Over the last year, weā€™ve launched many new blocks (List, grid, table, nav, user accounts, etc.) and this launch brings all of that together. Plus, with the announcement for Tables and Workflows, weā€™re hoping youā€™ll not only be able to build more beautiful apps than ever before, but also apps in a full stack manner soon. Many possibilities will unlock for Softr builders once this happen, from a power, flexibility, and utility stand point. Hope to still have you around for when that time comes!
