What database software do you prefer and why?

Hi there,

I’m curious about your database software choice and the reasoning behind it. I’m considering Notion or Airtable, each with their own limitations.

Airtable seems optimal for Softr connections, with all fields being visible, while Notion offers direct Akiflow integration for time blocking, which I value.

Given the many database options available, I’d appreciate your insights to ensure I’m making the right choice.

Best regards,
Marloes

Here’s my expert take on this:

  • For no-code/low-code users: If you prioritize ease of use and quick setup, tools like Airtable, Notion, SmartSuite, or Monday are solid choices. However, their performance and scalability are limited.
  • For no-code users needing high performance: If you require a more robust solution but still want a no-code approach, I’d recommend waiting for the launch of Softr’s native tables, which promise better integration and efficiency.
  • For serious scalability and performance: If you’re working with complex data relationships, high-volume operations, or require advanced querying, a true database system like PostgreSQL is the way to go.

The best choice ultimately depends on your technical capabilities and performance requirements.

Hi @acjnas

Thanks for your reply.
For my usage no-code/low-code tools are just fine. But the thing I don’t know for sure is wheter they all (Notion, Aitable, Smartsuite) have the same options using Softr.

Maybe some of those tools have limitations when integrating Softr. That is why I’m curious to find out what database software other users use and what limitations there up against.

The limitations of each tool will become more apparent as you progress with your app. It’s difficult to anticipate potential issues during the planning phase, as many challenges only surface when you’re actively building and testing. Hands-on experience or a well-defined list of must-have features will help you identify which integrations work best for your needs.
