User emails (changing) and Magic Links

A thought …

I only use Magic Links for all user-access to my Softr.io app. I have set up two-way sync with my Airtable “People” table.

Am I right in thinking that it doesn’t cause a problem (within Airtable) to change anyone’s email address in Airtable, once their Magic Link has been generated? I have tested generating new Magic Links in Softr, and they sync back correctly to Airtable.

I appreciate that the email address in Softr will now not match any updated one in Airtable, but that shouldn’t be a problem for me as I am not setting any block conditions to match “Logged in user email address”, I am using each user’s RecordID to identify them. I am also not using Softr to send invites.

Interested to know if there are any pitfalls I am missing?

Did you discover any pitfalls?
I’m just trying to do the same and set up the change via Make.com

I got nervous about this! So I changed my approach:

I keep the original sign-up email in Airtable synced with Softr.io

I have another email field in Airtable that is the user-updated address (if they want to use a different address for notifications, for example), then a third (formula) field with a logic to take either the original email field content, or the updated email field content if not empty, to use for notifications/automations etc.

Make.com seems to work for me. I change the email of the user that requested it via make.com and then I delete the old user with that email address.

All that’s missing now is the password, so I send the user an email, asking them to reset their password.

I don’t see any pitfalls yet.

That’s a neat way to do this @Tim_ClimatEU . Thanks for sharing your method.
