The New Softr Is Worrisome

Will we also be able to embed sign up and log in blocks on other pages again? This also seems to be a functionality that has disappeared. Is there any better workaround?

Use case: We have a form inside of a modal but the form is only for logged in users. If we put another button that opens the log in or sign up modal above the form, it redirects them to the home page after they log in when I just want to refresh the modal on the same page they were on whenever they clicked log in. We used to be able to do this in the old version

Excited to see what new pages you’ll be offering for this. I’ve gotten a lot of negative feedback from users that resetting their password (and how long it takes to receive the password reset link to their emails) is not how they would like to be onboarded. It would be great if we were able to set one time passwords for users, and then once they’ve logged in they could set their own.

Glad I am not the only one feeling the frustrations. This new update seems to have rendered my app useless. I was getting ready to launch my project in August and upgrade to a paid subscription. Thankfully this happened before i made the investment.
Sadly I will probably need to jump ship, though I really don’t want to!!! Kind of hoping for a miracle here ))

I think magic links are a good workaround for this but also have their own limitations

Wanted to check in here - any updated timeline for onboarding flow? Will it also include being able to do so from any page or will it be part of the “forced redirects” post sign up?

Would be awesome to have users pick up right from the page they left after signing up or logging in.

No update on our side yet. Still in development.

This will be a redirect page that users (when in certain user groups) will be redirected too (either at signup or after) to finish filling out required information. Good for sign up, and new data needed for existing users.

Oh I see, so it will not be bringing back the additional sign up fields we used to be able to add?

For example, if we literally just want to collect someone’s name when they sign up, this will have to be done through a redirect rather than just built into the simple sign up form?

That’s correct @nocoder. The new sign up is not as streamlined as the legacy sign up, especially for cases like the one you mentioned. The proposed “new onboarding” should have been released with “the New Softr” back in Q1, let alone last quarter when they said it would be. We asked for additional fields back then as well:

We are still hung up on our launch waiting for this functionality… any updates here?

Hi @Nocoder

This is actively in development however the scope has increased along the way, which has made it take longer than expected. Within the onboarding functionality we’re also creating the ability for uses to edit data within a conditional form, which is tied to this experience. I’ve checked with the team to see if they have a timeline that they can share at this moment, and will keep you updated as things continue to progress.

@artur. What are your thoughts about re-deploying more styling options like we had before the “New Softr” this year? There’s been a lot of complaints about the significant reduction in styling with the new release. Legacy builders who were waiting years for user email changing, authentication, and onboarding flows didn’t expect the trade off between these essential portal features and customizability.

I don’t see this one happening pal. We are getting ready to update our brand system + provide new styling options for blocks though that may be able to help you further.

Wish I knew what that means JJ. For instance, we have no real range for changing logo and header font size anymore…among other styling limitations for dynamic blocks:

I don’t have all the details on our updated brand yet so can’t share yet. But the goal is to give the user more control over styles, colors, etc.

Cover image on mobile is still planned, and I’ll check in on it. As you can imagine, we have hundreds of tasks that our team is working on at the moment.

Is styling coming back?

You’ll have more styling options in the future, yes

This thread is getting quite long, with many comments, but I’d like to close the loop on the onboarding topic.

  1. Onboarding block has launched, which I’m sure you’ve all seen by this point. It’s a huge improvement for the way you onboard new users to your app.
