We were very comfortable with the level of customization we had. Why take it away? is what we, as softr users are having trouble to understand or justify.
In hispanic soccer, there is popular saying ‘Equipo que gana no se toca’… ‘Stick with the winning formula.’
I never read an user complainnig about having too much flexibility options with the legacy apps or blocks. Some users asked for a better UX but never read anyone like… we have too much customization on our hands.
With all sincerity, I wish continued success to this great company.
Softr is not planning on adding additional fields to sign up and the proposed “new onboarding experience” won’t be released until the end of the 2nd Quarter of 2025, at the earliest. It’s not even on Softr’s Roadmap.
@artur, perhaps Softr should prioritize onboarding so legacy builders can actually use “The New Softr” sooner than later?
@acjnas it’s all about right balance… with too many options people end up creating monster setup which is not always the intention… there are way more people doing things wrong vs doing right when you ask everything to be done by customising… There are tons of things that should not be customisable if you want people to successfully build… and let’s keep in mind there are more unexperienced builders than experienced… so overall it’s not like we want to remove all customization options as mentioned there is consistent additions happening while we try to simplify the platform and prepare to scale further
@Ben we are prioritising, the team is discussing what options to provide… we are not denying the need and it’s one of our priority items… will share asap once we have the exact dates.
Quick update here we started working on onboarding part it’s in design phase and we will enter into implementation phase in the next 5-10 days… will keep posting
Thanks for the update @artur. For new users that were invited or entered the app with a magic link, will the new onboarding include a way for them to create a password? Softr’s suggestion had always been to direct them to their account (profile) settings upon entry and have them update their password. Since these users had not created a password yet, this workaround was never a good user journey for these scenarios.
@Ben spoke to the team and what you’re looking for already exists with the new user management. The key is to use the invitation link and not magic link.
Then, when a user clicks on the invitation link, they will automatically be brought to a page where they have to create a password (if your app requires it). Nothing needed on your side (the flow is built already).
Thanks for looking into it @Jjenglert. Softr invitations are sent to all users that are added to an app, correct? We would need invitations sent to a pre-defined user group for this to work in our case though. I don’t think you can set rules that send invitations to a particular user group unfortunately.
Hi @Ben this automation is only for users added from external source (e.g. user sync, API). So if you have users who sign up on their own this won’t be triggered (since they’re already in the app). Is that your concern?
Or do you want to only send invitation to a sub-set of users synced from source? We can certainly expand it – a few follow up questions:
How will you invite the rest of the users who don’t have invitation?
Do you want to send the invite on user creation or user group entry
Will they have the needed value to be sorted into the desired user group as soon as they’re synced / created in your app?
Hi @austinyang. Thanks for following up. We’ve been bypassing Softr’s invitations and using the datasource to invite users with a Softr magic link due to said limitations. I was planning on redirecting external invites to the new sign-up or sign in with code for additional security. The problem is creating a password with this flow, since they would already be a synced Softr user. Please let me know if the proposed onboarding flows will accommodate this type of onboarding.
Your idea here would be a good start at improving the flexibility of Softr invites:
Perhaps include user rules with conditions that send an invitation depending on the type of user(s) when they enter Softr’s Users table, kind of like User Sync configuration:
I am extremely worried. I have been learning how to build witn and dabbling with Softr for a few years now, creating client facing platforms, and these new updates make me realize they are going in the completely opposite route. The new header bar absolutely screws up the user experience and the lack of footers just makes pages look informal and serious. This is a HUGE downgrade and a shame.
I’ve found Softr to be my preferred no code tool to integrate with Airtable. Now, I’ll have to live with the fact that Soft might one day make my platforms obsolete and I will have to move to a competitor (Bubble? Barf…) or hire someone else to build my platforms with code.
Simple things like nav bar colors now require code. Downgrade.
Any ideas as to when the Legacy version of Softr will be phased out completely?
@Ben in new version of the app, if your apps require users to sign in use password, and a user doesn’t have one, they’ll be directed to reset password page (soon we’ll offer a different page just for this 1st time experience) when they click on invitation link. This applies to users synced from source as well as those you added in Softr UI manually. You don’t need to set anything up. This is an out of box logic.
Have you tested this flow and see otherwise?
NOTE: If your app also have OTP enabled, this will only be triggered when you require them to sign-in with BOTH password & OTP.
Thanks for sharing your feedback with us @nocodeOW
We recently updated our footer bar. It’s now located within page settings. Maybe you’re just missing it there?
For our nav bar colors, we’re continuing to make improvements there as well. We’re trying to make it so your apps look amazing and professional out of the box + providing plenty of options for you to adjust to your brand / use case as needed.
It seems we still have some more work to do though, and we appreciate you taking the time to let us know your thoughts.
BTW: I have to manually trigger a sync for the user to arrive in Softr from source (Softr Users isn’t auto-syncing with datasource). This app is in the process of being migrated.
This is amazing news that the onboarding is in development! We are holding moving to a different platform or trying to figure out a solution for this update.
Do you think we should build out a workaround with an automation for now or wait for the functionality?
One major thing we need is the ability to add a linked user during onboarding to define family relationships. So if a parent is making an account, they should be able to create an account for their child or if a child has an account, they should be able to select who their parent is via email, etc. Im sure we can figure this out as long as we can add custom form fields like we used to.
For reference, we want to launch our onboarding form around July - is it realistic to plan to use Softr for this or will we be risking functionality by waiting for this feature?
Thank you guys for your amazing responsiveness and listening to consituents!
Hi Ben, if you haven’t, do you mind submit a support ticket (you can link to this thread), and we can have someone look into the specific setup for you. Thanks!
@austinyang@artur, what will this look like for invited users (from invitation link)? Will invited users synced from source go through some sort of new onboarding flow as well with creating passwords, terms and conditions, and additional user field collections from this “different page”?
