@fpx, you will have the same problem with this flow regardless if you are using native forms and automations running or not:
Yup will do.
@Ben If the Add Record action button on list blocks had conditional logic (like conditional form) that would solve the issue with refreshing after modal close as you wouldnt need to use a seperate page with a form for adding records?
The only reason we use modal forms to add records is for the conditional logic.
And it also provides a better UI/UX than âAdd Recordâ action/edit button when displayed as the right hand modal.
Agree @fpx, with usability of all your configurations. However, list actions donât have conditionality, forms in modals donât update parent pages in the background or navigate back to tabs when items are added. If you read the previous post thread, and this one included, youâll find that Softr (Artur) is not that motivated in connecting, improving, and finishing features like modals unfortunately.
Hey @Ben Have you seen or heard any update to what Softr have done about this?
Hey George. This is the last I heard about real time updates (data syncronization). From my experience this may not get done by EOY, because Softr is prioritizing their database over Airtable now.
Real-time updates are live for all apps that are on a datasource that has our data synchronization or with Softr Databases.
Unfortunately, weâre still a bit away from making this happen with Airtable as weâve hit some more delays. Latest timeline is 6-8 weeks to getting upgraded to our data synchronization layer as well.
Speaking of Softr Databases JJ, since Softr isnât including legacy builders in its corresponding database plans, lets see real time updates for Airtable get done by September then. Weâve already been waiting and paying for years to have our data load faster.
Weâre working hard to make this happen, among with many other huge features, including workflows that will again, take this product to the next level for you and all of our builders.
@Ben Is this true?
Legacy business plan users, will get the same database quota as user who use softr for free?
Correct Jonathan. A gut punch again after waiting for real time data syncing all these years. Legacy customers are forced to upgrade to use Softrâs Database at corresponding database plan limits. This means that after paying thousands of dollars a year already, I would have to pay more for database limits on the new business plan, but with less advantageous limits for other features compared to my legacy business plan.
This also means that you can stop paying for what other database you may be using, which I believe is getting lost in this conversation.
I know this is not what youâre looking to hear, but this is an entirely new product that didnât exist when you signed up years ago, and replaces another system that you are paying for, and also something that we heavily invested in.
I believe weâve been very generous with our legacy plans, and will continue to be, but this new product warrants an upgrade to our current pricing (which is among the fairest on the market) if youâd like to enjoy this product.
Yup. Definitely not the kind of news early adopters and legacy users expected to read. Is not hard to predict that when workflows finally arrive, our monthly running quota is also going to be the lowest possible number. I hope I am wrong.
Right. Even though it is planned, I wouldnât bet on real time data sync with AT either. It makes no sense now that Softrâs in-house database is in direct competition with Airtable.
@Jjenglert Understand Softr has been investing heavily into Softr databases but I really dont think this is what Softr users have asked for?
We want to continue using Airtable backend as it is so much further ahead than Softrs back end and will be compounding much faster than Softr can keep up with.
Why would we pay more to use Softrs back end for less features than it would be to save cost on having Airtable as back end with Softr front end? Not to mention all the bugs that will come with being the guinea pigs for Softrs database and the slow down in improving the front end - what Softrs real VALUE is.
And these are just the ones reported lately in the community (the vast majority of Softr bugs get reported directly to chat help):
âŚ
Not for legacy customers who expected and have waited 3, 4, or even 5 years for email changing, email authentication, conditional forms, âŚ, and other essential features like real time sync with Airtable data (which we are still waiting for).
With the requirement to upgrade for the in-house database, pricing has effectively increased every year for the last 3 years. Regardless of how it is positioned, Softr has set a precedent here. It is that all of Softrâs paid plans are subject to price increases, regardless of when they sign up, past or present.
Real question - is the goal to try and push all Softr users onto databases in the coming future?
The points made in this thread are right, a lot of people have asked for improvements to the existing platform with Airtable, not a new platform that will cost more, have less features, and be years behind Airtable.
Not to mention, we have hundreds of front end users that only work for us because we are on the legacy plans. The argument that upgrading will âreplace airtableâ is simply not true because the cost increase for our number of users would be MUCH more than the $240 per year we pay for Airtable.
If Softr is going to start pushing us to use their own database system and limit improvements to the existing systems, this seems like a step backwards for the community.
I am very worried, I just pushed extremely hard to our execs to move our ENTIRE business on to Softr and Airtable instead of using Salesforce. We are planning to spend thousands for this change.
If this comes back to cause another change in the future and try and get us to move to softr when weâve built out our system on Airtable for years, I worry about marking this jump now.
I think some clarity here on the future roadmap of what we can expect as customers would be appreciated.
Hi @nocoder
Our goal is not to push existing Airtable users to Softr databases⌠There are few reasons we have our own database and will continue improving it as well as improving external datasources such as airtableâŚ
- Half of our user base learns about Airtable from us so not everyone comes with Airtable accountâŚ
- Airtable API limitations and speed has forced as to have alternative too
- Softr always planned to be full stack and being 4 years old company itâs right time (perhaps even late) to invest into that vision.
- There will be features that we might be able to do based on Softr databases that we might not be able to do on external datasources
Again to stress it out we donât want to push to switch to Softr databases unless users are unhappy about certain aspects of Airtable integration then we offer alternativesâŚ
The bullet points listed are all reasons to switch to Softrâs database. It does not make business sense to optimize a competing datasource with your own in-house database that you âheavily invested inâ and are upcharging for anyway. Lastly, had the Airtable data synchronization, you proposed last year, been deployed already, we could be more confident that Airtable will perform as well and you werenât pushing us to Softrâs database. As we speak, users are switching because your database is faster on your platform.
It makes sense, as many mid-size companies manage their workflows, processes, and operations for all employees using Airtable, Google Sheets, Monday, or other data sources. They wonât just switch their operational tools overnightâand many donât want to switch at all.
As Artur mentioned, this is an alternative. Softrâs database and upcoming workflows can be used to pull data from one data source and send it to anotherâfor example, from a data source to the Softr database. Some operational processes can be managed within one data source, others within another.
Some small or very small companies might be interested in switching though as they donât have so much operation process involved.
This is all about company operations and processes. The vast majority of the Softrâs clients donât post here. What you see in this forum is far from the full picture of Softrâs client base.
The upcoming Salesforce integration is another exampleâyet another data source, typically not used by small businesses, by the way.
