Hi Ben, the problem here is the modal… when it’s done via modal we have issues identifying they are connected… we will need to take special care of this… I will be discussing this internally but I can’t give any ETA yet
Hey Artur. That’s unfortunate, when this has been outstanding for so long.
This is not as powerful, but may I suggest adding conditionality to the “Add record” action to lists in the meantime then?
We plan to add conditional logic into action forms too… however the earlier request is easier to do than the later one… Let me update you end of next week as we will be discussing the update topic and all possible scenarios next week
@artur, what is the word on this?
@Ben we are experimenting near real time data sync that might solve some of the issues highlighted above…
Later on we will get rid of iframe modals and that will allow also better targetting of updates…
@Artur, I am not sure which particular request you are referring to in this thread. Can you be more explicit as to what issue ‘real time data sync’ will address and how please?
@Ben referring to this one Refresh after modal close? - #41 by Ben parent page data updating when data is modified in other pages via modal
Sounds good Artur. I have modals configured for this. Please let us know when we can publish.
Conditional logic to action forms would be great
@Artur, noticed the official announcement for Smartsuite and Notion. When will real time updates be deployed for Airtable?
Given the amount of users we have using Airtable, it will be one of the last to be updated @Ben . This will give us enough time to properly ensure a smooth transition at such a massive scale. We’re aiming for all of this to be complete by end of Q3, if not sooner.
This is where workflows will come in @FPX
Makes sense @JJenglert, but kind of defeats the purpose of connecting to external datasources at all. Why would we need real time updates for Airtable, or any data source for that matter, if Softr performs better with its native Tables and Workflows?
I know this one, probably because softr tables will not have ’ share and embed view’ or the hundreds and hundreds of exclusive features found per each datasource.
Exactly Jonathon. So there will be a trade off between performance and power. Airtable will not change their business model anytime soon and it will take Softr a long time to come close to Airtable’s power, so why not prioritize real time updates, then build out Tables/Workflows?
It’s a good question @Ben
To put it simply, Airtable’s API isn’t designed to deliver the enterprise-level performance our users need for maximum speed and scalability. That said, it remains an important data source for us, and we’re committed to supporting it so we can help users wherever their data is stored. This will continue to be a priority, even as we introduce our own database.
By having our own database, we can create a more seamless experience, unlocking a lot of added value. However, we understand that some users may prefer other databases for various reasons, and we’re dedicated to providing the best experience possible for them as well.
@jjenglert, The facts are that Softr has prioritized Smartsuite and Notion for faster data retrieval. If you’re aiming for increased Airtable performance by end of Q3 this year, after Softr’s Workflows and Tables are released, it’s debatable whether or not Airtable support is “a priority”. Just trying to keep it real.
We decided to focus on SmartSuite and Notion first because these platforms have fewer users, so if something isn’t working quite right, it affects a smaller group. This gives us room to learn, refine, and ensure stability before rolling out changes to a huge Airtable audience.
