For now the PDF-Export is just a kind of a screenshot of the display. Some tables are not fully rendered on it and also all the buttons are visible on the pdf. That’s not my vision of a clean PDF-Export. Is there something Softr can do about this?
Agreed! One of my clients brought this up earlier this week. We tried the CSV export, but it simply makes the content hard to read. Using the save-to-PDF option doesn’t render all of the entries on the page, instead a weird cut-off snippet of only the first.
They want users to be able to export as needed, and it simply isn’t practical with the current setup.
(For clarity, in our case, this is meeting notes from a series or sessions. Each note is an individual database entry, set to show fully in the page. When the PDF-export option is used, you only get the block data at the top and a cut-off view of only the first meeting note on the page. It’s a mess and completely unusable.)
Depending on where your data is stored, I’ve been very impressed by Typeflow connected to Airtable. (https://app.typeflow.us/)
I run it through Softr and have a pretty simple automation in Airtable to trigger it! It’s a little slow (takes 20-30 seconds) which might be prohibitive but for my purposes it has worked well.
+1
@Jjenglert is this something that can be looked into?
It’s not useable in its current format if you have more than one page of data in a block. It only exports what’s shown on the page (even when it’s set to infinite scroll).
Thanks ![]()
This is something we will improve over time, but it’s a hard problem that not many users face and so our response won’t be as fast. I’d suggest looking at other ways to export this PDF if you have more specific needs.
I’ve noticed that SmartSuite have just released and intergration with DocsAutomator. I’m trying to get approval internally to trial it out (requiring a Google Docs account is a potential issue) but I think it would be great if Softr Databases could also be used with DocsAutomator and then potentially the workflows when they are released. I could see a lot of potential uses of this across Softr. @Jjenglert @austinyang do you see and integration with DocsAutomator being possible any time soon?
For now I do a lot of Iterating and Aggregating between linked records and try to finalize them in a PDF which I create with Google Docs and edit with the Replace Text Module. But would be great to have a feature like this native, but I believe with related records this will be a bigger project. I saw that in creating my make automation.
This will be something that will become much easier with Softr Workflows coming in the next couple of months.
Coming back to this as I can’t see how we can export from Softr into a pdf in Workflows unless I’m missing something - please help ![]()
There is no native action for it at the moment. Maybe look into using docautomater via a Call API action?
Thanks
Does that mean that there’s no point in using ‘Export to PDF’ from Softr as that doesn’t work? and
Instead - create a PDF elsewhere of whatever is in the table in Softr and then use a button in Softr to download it? It’s the table layout in Softr that we want to export to PDF (not necessarily the information behind the scenes) and as this information changes constantly I’m confused as to how this would actually work ![]()
Sorry, you confused me when you said an action for Softr workflows… The table has an “export as” feature. Are you saying that is not working for you?
No, hence the topic at the start of this thread
- it only exports the block shown - not everything if pagination/scroll is used.
we are using documint.me to export and render pdf files directly from our softr app. We are happy with it.
Got it @Grainne. Just messaged the engineer leading this build to see what else can be done to improve this. Thanks for reporting.
Brilliant, thank you so much. Hopefully they can improve it ![]()
I’ve also been speaking to Rupert at DocsAutomator who is looking to build an integration with Softr now that workflows has been released. Not sure how far away this is but something that I’m looking forward to as all my team are constantly asking me about PDF export options
Hi team,
I stumbled upon this thread and just to let you know, I released with TypeFlow a native integration with Softr a couple of weeks ago. I haven’t communicated because I’m still iterating with users, and we are improving the integration every day. But it’s available for anyone.
We let you build templates from our template builder or Google Docs.
Our starter plan starts at 24$ per month for 500 documents.
If you have any questions, hit me up!
We also testing with https://studio.carbone.io/. That looks also great (and save!) to make PDF documents. We have Documint in production at Airtable and tested also Docs Automator. All with API connections. It needs a little bit of easy coding tot transform the data (Softr Databases) to make it suitable for the tolls that ar mentioned.
