No-Code platform yet you need Javascript, academy?

Hey all,

I have been working a while now with SOFTR and other no-code tools and something is bothering me. I can do a lot with just the building blocks provided and even if a functionality is missing, the constant updates makes it that it is usually just a matter of waiting on the right updates so I can implement the correct solution for my clients.

However, there are many instances where I cannot wait for the right update to happen. Or there is such a niche requirement for a situation that I know no update will solve the request. In a bid to still solve the problem I have had to dabble more than once with Javascript to get the best out of SOFTR. I am not a programmer, hence my choice for no-code tools. I tried to work with chat-gpt but it has become clear after many forum visits and frustrating hours that SOFTR has a couple of best practices that you just need to learn.

This is where my request comes in. Is there a way to get a short course or proper documentation how to use event-listeners, change buttons / locations or other handy javascript tips for SOFTR? It would make it for non-coders like me a lot easier to become fully self sufficient in the use of SOFTR. Or maybe train an AI that understands SOFTR’s logic so we can use that to help us write the code?

Keep up the amazing work!

Really appreciate you taking the time to provide this feedback. I understand your point, especially as someone who cannot “code” like yourself. The great thing about Softr is you can do a lot with no-code, and if there are ever limitations, you can normally accomplish it with code. But the “code” part is hard for us “no-coders”.

As I am leading our education efforts, I can tell you that we are aware of this and while we don’t have anything on our roadmap for this specific kind of content, we do hope to get there. This quarter I will be updating our academy, and then next quarter I’ll begin recording new Softr courses for beginners, and then hopefully, advance users where I hope to cover topics like this.

So feel free to keep me updated, and I’ll do what I can on an education front to ensure all of our builders can use Softr to the most of its ability!

Besides integrating with LLM to help no-coders craft JavaScript (eg. as part of a more premium feature you may already have), may I suggest perhaps turning such code needs (with app context and requirements) as a paid micro job others can take/bid on (similar to what freelancer.com does).
