More layout & grouping options for “Edit Record” Actions

It would be great to have more layout and customization options for the Edit Record action.

Currently, when configuring an Edit Record action with multiple fields, the form is basically just a vertical list of fields. For records with many fields, this can quickly become long and difficult to navigate.

It would be very helpful to have simple layout options such as:

  • Sections / Groups to organize related fields

  • Containers with optional headings

  • Multiple columns (e.g. 2 or 3 fields next to each other)

  • Dividers / spacing between different groups

  • Collapsible sections for less important fields

For example, an Edit Record form for a CRM deal could be structured into sections like:

Deal Information
Deal name | Status | Owner

Financial Information
Purchase price | Financing | Funding

Customer Information
Customer | Email | Phone

This would make Edit Record actions much cleaner and would allow us to build more professional forms and CRM-like interfaces directly in Softr without having to create separate pages or workarounds.

The existing Edit Record functionality is already very useful but having more control over the visual structure of the form would make it much more powerful.

Hi Matthias, thank you for taking the time to share yoru feedback with us! I’ve shared your suggestions with our Product team so they can take them into account when planning upcoming improvements to the Edit action button.

A workaround until then is swapping the Edit Record action for a form block pre-filled with the record’s values. Forms already support multi-column layouts, so you’ll get much closer to the grouped look you want.
