Empty List Until User Searches

Has anyone come up with any creative solutions (assuming with custom code) to show a list block with no results until someone searches?

The use case here is a list of resources that open in a modal. I want users to search for the resource they are looking for but I don’t want to show any resources until they search so that they don’t think those are the only resources available.

If I get sometime during the weekend I will try to code this first via custom code.

+1 for this. I’ve made a few attempts at this for my universal search hack, but nothing very elegant.
