Documents and Reports (PDFs)

We have some detail pages that we actually export as a PDF (using another tool, not the built in PDF export button). Would be nice if there was a detail block or page specifically designed for pages intended to be exported as PDFs so that you could format headers, footers, page-breaks etc. Has anyone had any success doing this in any way?

Depends where your data is.

My data is in Airtable and I have been pretty happy with Typeflow which generates Google Docs based off a template. I trigger those via Softr, and Typeflow puts the URL right back into Airtable which mean my users get a downloadable link in like 15 seconds. Not too bad! You can also get a PDF copy.

Ahhh. We did look at Typeflow (among others) but we’re using the Softr database, dang it.

Docs Automator?

I big shout for Typeflow here if anyone needs a reference. Kevin the owner developer is amazing proactive and helpful and always up for new ideas. He has also launched the system to work with softr Database now as well as airtable. Please do check it out. I produce about 3500 pdfs’s a month on his system and it never missed a trick.

typeflow can work with softr as well now.

Now with workflows and API call action I think any tool could be used for PDF creation

Still can’t trigger a workflow from an Items-Details button though, nor from a List-Item button.

what’s the datasource used in the block ?

Airtable

Hi everyone,

Happy new year!

Kevin from TypeFlow! @tssgmtb TypeFlow integrates with Softr now. If you need my support, you can reach out to me I will make sure everything works well. I’m working closely with Softr users to keep improving the product.

@Vera_the_cat @jkasman Thank you for the mention. I always do my best to help TypeFlow’s users.

@Q8T I think we have many customers who trigger the PDF generation through an Item Details button (with Airtable data). If you want to share a bit more about your use case you can reach out to me at k@typeflow.us.

Not sure what you are exactly trying to achieve, but Documint.me is worth a look. I use it with Airtable and Softr. It won’t create a PDF of how your Softr front end looks, but you can recreate and format template documents to display how you want them and use either or both an automation or/and generative link in Airtable to generate the PDF from a button within Softr’s interface. They have direct support for Softr database too.

Update: Softr workflows have now a direct integration with DocsAutomator

Hi Rupert, I’ll drop you a message to get a catch up. I gave up waiting on SmartSuite to get their issues fixed but have just managed to set up the integration with Softr and DocsAutomator. I’m about 75% there with getting it to work. I have my workflow triggering and seems to be producing the document url but I’m struggling to get this accessible.

I might also need some help with getting related records to display as a table within the document. Will be amazing if I can get this working

not sure if you have reached out already, but please do if you haven’t

Hi Rupert, I dropped a message to you earlier in the online chat on DocsAutomator. I can email you if that’s easier?

Hi. @matthieu_chateau

Is there a way to create a workflow like this?
The customer selects a document type to purchase, pays via Stripe, fills out a form, and the PDF is generated using the DocsAutomator integration. But how can I ensure the customer only generates one document per payment? Currently, I’m having the problem that an unlimited number of documents can be created when filling out the form. How can I ensure that only one document is generated per payment per customer?

If the need is very local in your page, feel free to ask the vibe-coding block to generate such a feature for you - connect the block to your data source if you need this to be generated based on the detail page’s data
