Assigning Onboarding Information via Conditional Form to User Accounts

After a user signs up with their email and new password, they are directed to an onboarding process that collects additional information such as name, job title, etc.

The onboarding is set up using a conditional form block.

Upon completion and submission of the form, two records are created in my user database:

  1. Record 1: Contains the email, date joined, and Softr record ID.
  2. Record 2: A new softr ID that is different than record 1 and all the onboarding information (name, job title, etc.) but no email.

How can I ensure that the submitted user information is assigned to the account just created, instead of generating two separate records?

I ended up splitting the conditional form across 7 pages with one question on each, then connecting Zapier to it and updating the data source by adding a hidden field for email on each page that tied it back to the account upon submission. This allowed me to update the user profile (instead of adding a 2nd) AND save the user’s progress along the way as I suspect some users will drop off.

Wanted to update this thread informing everyone that we’ve released an official solution for this with our new onboarding flows. You can learn more here: Onboarding Flows are now LIVE 🔥 - #10 by Jjenglert
