Slow load times in USA: Option to select server geography

I had set up Pingdom for my client’s Softr project. I noticed that from EU servers the avg response time was 200-250ms, whereas from US servers the response time was 800-1000ms. Then I realized that Softr servers were only in Germany.

Basically, Softr users in the US have to wait an additional 600-700ms for their request to travel across the Atlantic ocean and load their pages / requests.

This seems like a poor base user experience for US users. Previous to this experience I had thought “Softr is a slow product”, now I realize that Softr loads at a reasonable time for people in the EU.

Could you offer an option to select a cloud server in the US for each Softr project? I think you will wow your current US users and attract more US customers.

Hi @jonathanm for most of cross atlantic requests the add on should be anything between 100-300ms not the numbers you mentioned. mind DM-ing the page you are checking ?

We might add US servers too but that’s a long term project…

@artur below are the logs from Pingdom showing an avg differential of 477ms between North American and EU servers.

From what I can tell this would mean Softr is going to have objectively slow loading times for all North American users.

Why would it be a long term project to replicate cloud infrastructure to additional instances?

Thanks for sharing is this simple http call to the home page ?

data residency in a new region is not very trivial task to be fair many companies do this at later stages…

Yes, does a simple HTTP ping every 5 minutes and the numbers you see are the average response time.

The page does redirect to sign-in given it’s a protected page so I guess here we see 2 requests one original and one redirect
