In the Actions tab where I have an Edit record button, I have a field that is “Long text”, but I want it to be a “Rich text” so I can have some markdown harmony between Softr and Airtable rich text formatting. However, there is no Rich text option available.
I have Rich text formatting selected both on the edit record item and on the content field on the item block. What am I doing wrong? Presently, I have to find a field that is Rich text, duplicate it and remap it… then it works. But that isn’t always possible. Thanks for any help.
Can you please confirm that the option highlighted in the screenshot is enabled?
If so, do I understand correctly that even when the field is a Rich Text field in Airtable, you do not see the formatting options in Softr with rich text formatting enabled? However, when you duplicate the field and use the duplicated version, it works correctly?
Could you also let us know:
Whether this happens on all Item Details blocks or only on some of them and if it occurs only on a specific page
And whether you’re able to reproduce the same issue on other blocks, such as List or Table blocks
Hi @sveta.ohanyan , thanks for the reply. I can confirm the Rich Text Formatting option is enabled and mirrors your screenshot (I include my own screenshot), in an item details block. I have replicated the same issue in the list type block too, and the problem is replicated in another Item details block on the same page. To repeat, I can’t set an action edit button that allows an AIrtable long text field (with rich text formatting enabled) to have the input display the rich text option. Some older content fields I added months ago have the rich text field, but more recently added Airtable long text fields with Rich text formatting enabled, doesn’t seem to be supported. That’s my impression at least. Any thoughts?
Screenshot: Shows other fields as rich text (copied from older content fields added months ago). Shows more recently added long text Airtable field, “Introduction”, which shows the “Long text” field option, with no Rich Text option in the drop down available.
In legacy blocks, we had separate Rich Text and Long Text fields. Now, we have the Long Text field where you can enable or disable Rich Text formatting.
If Rich Text formatting is enabled and you preview the page or check in live version, you’ll see the text editor highlighted, as shown in the screenshot below. This allows you to format the text as you intend.
Please make sure this appears in your action buttons when you preview the page.
Thanks for confirming this. Firstly, I never spotted any information that this switch changed from Rich Text field to Long Text on the input type. Secondly, I want to state that whatever Softr did, it was a regressive step for me, because now I don’t have the same markdown harmony with Airtable as I did previously, when using the Rich Text legacy version input type. I don’t know why this is. Anyone else having issues? I have enabled all Rich Text formatting options, toggles and all, etc, etc. But there is just a mess if I attempt to mirror Softr’s rich text formatting with Airtable when using the newer Long Text input type. I never had this problem with the legacy Rich Text input type.
If I rich text edit in Softr, it renders a mess of formatting in Airtable’s interface.
Same with SmartSuite so I cannot use Softr to update records that contain rich text formatting in Softr, nor can I create a record that needs rtf in certain fields - even if it looks okay in Softr, what comes through in SS is a mess. Unusable.
This has now been resolved by Softr… what I saw happening was that records edited in Softr was showing rich text as HTML in Airtable. They have subsequently fixed it. In this age of tech, you’d think the genius’ that create AI could at least create a harmonious universal rich text editor… one for the wishing well. Wish I could more eloquently explain issues… takes so much time and energy to explain a problem and convince them I’m not the problem, haha!
