How can I add a simple “close”-button to a modal items detail page as most of my users will not ‘see’ the small upper right close-icon (“X”)

Here is a workaround I can suggest for your use case. On your Item Details page, you can create an “Open URL” button and set it to open the exact same page where the modal is currently displayed. This will refresh the page and also close the modal.
